Saturday in Santiago: BocaNariz Wine Bar

I promise to stop talking about wine for a bit after this, but vino is certainly something I’ve gotten into as a result of living in Santiago. BocaNariz opened a while ago in Lastarria, but I hadn’t visited until recently. The flight of coastal wines – sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and riesling – was the perfect complement to a warm summer evening.

The wine list is, as one would expect, quite extensive. In fact, it takes up an entire rather large wall. That said, I will admit I had hoped for even more wines by the glass. There’s certainly a good selection, but I was a bit disappointed when a couple of wines that caught my eye (including the Montes Cherub rosé) were only available by the bottle. I may be a wine-drinker, but I have my limits!

A subsequent visit to BocaNariz allowed me to try several of the dishes on the menu, all good. Although might I suggest that you share the raspberry dark chocolate ganache among more than two people? While tasty, it brings to mind the words “rich” and “diabetic coma.”

Although I refuse to admit it, summer may be coming to a close. So before it does, enjoy a refreshing glass of white or rosé at one of the BocaNariz outdoor tables. Or wait a few months and warm up with a nice red inside. Whatever the season, a good wine list always makes for good company.
