I lived in Chile for a while and just returned for a month. I had forgotten about the constant, penetrating stares. They are very ‘indescreta’. Kids stared, parents stared, everyone stared. Giant eyes everywhere. Some people actually jumped out of their skins when they turned around and saw me and toddlers were almost trance-like and scared of me too. Public transport was quite exhausting to say the least.

We can face a completely different atmosphere in this place. It is extraordinary.

Comment on “Prescription” drugs by Una chilena http://www.emilyinchile.com/2009/11/prescription-drugs/#comment-2428229 Sat, 11 Feb 2017 00:41:24 +0000 http://emilyinchile.com/2009/11/prescription-drugs/#comment-2428229 Hi there.
I know this entry is very old but it’s one of the first Google results so maybe people are still reading.
I think they make an exception with you because you’re a foreinger and they could saw your sore. If you were Chilean, they would have sent you to your doctor.
Prespcription only drugs like antiviral, antibiotics and Omeprazol are different to retained prespcription, like benzos and some cough syrups that contain codeine. You will never get retained prescription drugs without a prescription in any legal pharmacy here, even if you’re a foreinger.
Cheers from the End of The World.

I’m so happy I came across this blog! I hope it’s still active.
Can you please tell me the cost of a wedding in Chile? Not the religious part – but just the cost of a reception, including photos, food, and anything else for a complete wedding. Maybe June or July? Can you please help me? ??????

Comment on Recycling is hard by Kaila Yu http://www.emilyinchile.com/2011/06/recycling-is-hard/#comment-2406996 Sun, 27 Nov 2016 03:14:49 +0000 http://www.emilyinchile.com/?p=2837#comment-2406996 Wow, this really makes me appreciate how easy it is to recycle in the States! At the last place I lived, you didn’t even have to separate the recycling, the garbage service would just sort the trash and recycle it for you!
